Pray Like Jesus

Has there ever been a time in your life when you prayed about something and not only did it not happen, but it got worse?  The good news is that Jesus addressed the frustration we’d experience in prayer and what to do about it.  During the message Pray Like Jesus, we discovered that God isn’t bothered by our shamelessly persistent prayers—he’s moved by them.  Click HERE to read Luke 11, and HERE to listen to podcast.

“Dear Father, thank you for loving me and giving your only Son to save me…that never ceases to amaze me.  But there are A LOT more people who need to experience the grace, peace and joy that I have through you.  That’s why I want to ask you for a bunch of people to find you and begin to follow you at my church.  Specifically, I want to pray that __________________ finds you and begins to follow you fully.  Give me opportunities to invest into his/her life and the courage to invite him/her to The Journey.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Us to Them

Advance wrapped up Sunday with a chance for all of us to get in the game by committing to use what we have to benefit others, even people we’ve not yet met. The stories we heard and saw reminded us why: to help people find Jesus and follow him fully. You can catch the podcast HERE.

Here are this week’s next steps:

• Begin giving. If you’re new to faith or struggling financially, simply start somewhere.
• Take the 3-Month Tithe Challenge. If you’ve started giving but not tithing, do it for three months.  If God leaves you hanging, let us know and we’ll give it all back.
• Pledge toward Advance. If you missed an opportunity to pledge this past Sunday, you’ll get another chance this weekend. Pray now about what God can do through you to help people find Jesus and follow him fully. (If you’d like to give toward our Advance “Big Week,” go HERE.)

Zero to Hero

This past Sunday helped us move from financial zero to financial hero. Through the story of the wealthy leader, we discovered that giving transfers part of what we have to God so we can receive all that God has for us. (Catch the podcast HERE.)

• Enjoy the meal. If you don’t consider yourself a follower of Jesus yet, the tab is on us – feel free to dine and dash.
• Put my money where my mouth is. If you are a follower of Jesus, get in the game by giving generously and consistently.

Missionary Jim Elliott believed his work for God was more important than his own life. He said, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” Jesus put it this way: “…everyone who has given up house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the Kingdom of God, will be repaid many times over in this life, and will have eternal life in the world to come.”

5 Minutes to 5 Years

“Don’t begin until you count the cost.” Those were the words of Jesus as he called people to follow him fully, leaving everything behind to become his disciples. And these are the words of Jesus to The Journey as we prepare to advance to a new place so we can continue to grow. Following Jesus isn’t just about an emotion, it’s about an investment.

• Pray. This week, pray for your church – real church for real people. Pray for direction and favor regarding the new building we’re negotiating to acquire.
• Believe. It’s time to think and act like God is going to do something big through you. Step forward in faith.
