Christmas Shmishmas: Purpose

In The Journey’s final gatherings of 2011, we wrapped up “Christmas Shmishmas” by traveling all the way back to when Mary first heard the news that she was going to have a baby.  All the ups and downs of the holiday season (and of our lives) ultimately fade away when we realize that we have a purpose… and that God will stop at nothing to help us fulfill it.  Luke 1:26-38.

There were no next steps on Christmas Eve…just an invitation for you to find your purpose.  Many people raised their hands during the gatherings that they were putting their faith in Jesus, and 3 people indicated that they had done that for the very first time that evening!

Christmas Shmishmas: Problems

What a weekend for The Journey! If you missed it, catch the podcast. As Christmas Shmishmas continued, we gave away $24,000 to help those who are near us and need us, including a church planting fund, The Food Bank, Emmaus House (a local shelter for families in crisis)… and $12,000 to you.

Our staff is crazy excited to hear the stories of your Give It Away cash making a difference in our community. Be sure to email those to us at giveitaway@yourjourney.tv. Here are Sunday’s ideas to spark your creativity:

• Adopt a family for Christmas
• Buy a meal for a homeless person (or two, or ten)
• Fill somebody’s gas tank
• Randomly pay for someone else’s meal while you’re out to eat
• Give a single parent a day off or a night out
• Help a coworker who’s going through a tough time

Christmas Shmishmas kicked off with a message about our relationships. Most of us will interact with people we’re related to this season, and all of us have at least one we don’t get along with perfectly. Our calling is to encourage them, bless them, and help them find their way to God.
